For storytelling purposes it absolutely makes sense that they don’t say much. It’d be pretty frustrating if we were right in the middle of a scene to be pulled out by some detectives asking questions. I still feel like we should have reached a point in the world where color truly doesn’t matter. They’re ancillary characters, and there’s no real reason to think twice about it.

If it were intentional I’d actually appreciate it. But what I think happened is that they cast the entire show, then realized they had no color, flipped out and said, “hey, let’s make these two insignificant characters black so no one says anything.” And now, it’s two quiet black guys listening to the infinite wisdom of two white assholes. Which IS a plantation simile whether they want it to be or not.
